Passwords and locking a check to a user

1 min readUpdated Jul 9, 2026

A check link can be claimed by whoever opens it first. If you’re sharing it somewhere public, two optional protections let you control who actually gets the funds. You can use either, both, or neither.

Password

Set a password when you create the check, and the claimer must enter it to claim. The link alone isn’t enough.

Use this when you post the link publicly but only want people who know the password to claim — for example, sharing the password separately with your group, or revealing it as a giveaway answer.

Lock to a specific user

Locking a check to a Telegram user means only that one person can claim it, no matter who else opens the link.

Use this when the check is meant for one particular person. Even if the link leaks, nobody else can take the funds. A locked check is always single-use.

Which to use

If you lose the password

A password can’t be recovered — not even by support, since it’s stored only as a secure hash and never in plain text. If you forget it, nobody can claim the check.

The fix is simple: delete the check to refund the locked funds to your balance, then create a new one with a password you’ll remember.
