What is a check?

2 min readUpdated Jul 9, 2026

A check is a redeemable crypto link. You lock some crypto into it, share the link, and whoever opens it and claims it receives the crypto. It’s the easiest way to hand someone funds when you can’t just tap Send — a gift, a giveaway, or paying someone who isn’t in the app yet.

How it works

  • You create a check for a chosen asset and amount, and the funds are locked out of your balance while the check is live.
  • You get a link you can send anywhere — a chat, a caption, a comment.
  • The first person to open the link and claim it gets the amount added to their balance.

Checks are instant and free. Like a user-to-user send, they move inside the app’s ledger and never touch the blockchain, so there’s no network fee and no waiting for confirmations.

Single-use or multi-use

A check can be claimed once, or set up with several activations so multiple people can each claim the amount — handy for a giveaway. Each claim releases exactly one amount; when all activations are used, the check is exhausted.

Optional protections

You can keep a check from being grabbed by the wrong person:

  • Password — the claimer must enter a password you set. Good for a link you post publicly.
  • Lock to a user — only one specific Telegram user can claim it.

See Passwords and locking a check for when to use each.

Good to know

  • A recipient doesn’t need to already use the app — claiming a check works even on their first visit to @tgpaycryptobot.
  • Changed your mind? Delete the check and the unclaimed remainder is refunded to your balance.
  • To pay someone who’s already a user of the app, a plain Send is simpler than a check.
